Former FBI Special Agent - Former Special Assistant United States Attorney - Federal and State Criminal Defense Attorney

Gary Springstead is an experienced criminal defense attorney with a unique background that includes service as an FBI Special Agent and a Special Assistant United States Attorney. Mr. Springstead handles criminal cases throughout Michigan and federal courts across the United States. His background on both sides of the criminal justice system provides him with valuable insight into how investigations are conducted, how prosecutors evaluate cases, and how to build an effective defense. 

 Whether a case involves a federal investigation, white-collar allegations, drug charges, violent offenses, OWI/DUI charges, or another serious criminal matter, Mr. Springstead approaches each case with careful preparation, strategic analysis, and determined advocacy. 

From 2013 to present, Mr. Springstead has been recognized by Super Lawyers, a distinction awarded to attorneys who have attained a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition. Mr. Springstead is an active member of several professional organizations, including:

Mr. Springstead earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan in 1995 and his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 1998. He was admitted to the bar in Michigan in 1999. 

Former FBI Special Agent - State and Federal Criminal Defense Attorney - Appellate Attorney

Before becoming an attorney, Kathryn Springstead served as a Special Agent with the FBI. While an FBI Agent, she received the FBI Director's Award for Outstanding Investigation. Her experience as an FBI agent provides valuable perspective in a criminal defense case. Ms. Springstead understands how cases are developed, and she uses that experience to advocate for individuals facing criminal prosecution and to conduct thorough independent investigations on their behalf. 

Ms. Springstead earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in French from Clemson University. She subsequently earned a Master's degree in International Relations from Boston University Brussels, Belgium before obtaining her Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law. 

State and Federal Criminal Defense Attorney

Nicole Springstead-Stolte graduated summa cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and seventh in her class. She also earned academic awards for the highest grade in several law school classes, as well as top brief awards in appellate competitions, including a top brief award in a national criminal appellate competition.

Prior to becoming a Partner at Springstead Maddox Stolte Law, Ms. Springstead-Stolte worked for a well known criminal defense firm, fighting for the rights of clients in cases involving a variety of allegations across Michigan and the United States in both state and federal courts. She also worked for the Michigan Attorney General’s office, where she analyzed and summarized issues in civil and criminal cases, including issues involving Michigan Sentencing Guidelines and lifetime juvenile sentences, and she assisted in civil litigation on behalf of the State of Michigan. Ms. Springstead-Stolte also has experience working in a large corporate law firm with offices throughout the United States and abroad.

Ms. Springstead-Stolte uses her attention to detail and passion for justice to advocate vigorously for her clients both in and out of court. She handles state court criminal cases, legal research, motion practice, civil matters, and appeals throughout Michigan.

Ms. Springstead-Stolte earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law.
